“O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge, I seek ability through Your power, and I ask You of Your immense bounty…”

Benefit: Say it after two voluntary rakats, for any important decision (work, marriage, moving house).

What is dhikr?

Dhikr (ذكر) literally means “remembrance” or “calling to mind”. It covers every word that brings Allah to mind: prophetic invocations (du'a ma'thura), formulas of glorification (subhanAllah, alhamdulillah, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illa Allah) and recitation of the Qur'an. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not are like the living and the dead.”

— al-Bukhari 6407

How to structure your invocations

The prophetic tradition offers three key moments:

  • ✓ After Salat al-Fajr: the morning invocations (adhkar al-sabah) — about 15-20 minutes.
  • ✓ Between Asr and Maghrib: the evening invocations (adhkar al-masa).
  • ✓ Before sleeping: Ayat al-Kursi + the last three surahs + the night dhikr.

For every particular situation (entering the bathroom, marriage, visiting the sick, hardship…) the Prophet ﷺ passed on a specific invocation. The Fortress of the Muslim gathers more than 130 such situations.
